I approach photography as a form of personal documentation, understanding that “reality” is inherently subjective. My lens captures not only what I see, but what I feel in the instant of seeing. Each photograph becomes a time capsule, a container for memory, emotion, and atmosphere. I photograph to remember: my life, my evolution, the shifting landscape of my emotions. The visual world triggers a cascade of sensations, and I aim to evoke a similar response in the viewer, allowing them to connect with the image through their own experience. I find perfection within imperfection, mirroring the fleeting nature of moments themselves. Analog photography, with its unpredictability and immediacy, resonates with this philosophy. It preserves fragments of time that might otherwise slip away, only to be rediscovered later.
I am Claudia Muñoz Karig, born in Quito, Ecuador, a German-Ecuadorian photographer who identifies as feminist and queer. Influenced by a family deeply rooted in photography, the medium has been present throughout my life. My formal journey began with studies in analog photography in Quito at the age of 18, followed by a Bachelor of Arts in Architecture in Germany. I continued my photographic exploration at Freie Fotoschule Stuttgart in Germany and have participated in several group exhibitions. I have also shared my knowledge through workshops and photography courses. Now based in Quito, I work as a photographer and designer and hold a Master’s degree in Artistic Photography from UNIR.
Concibo la fotografía como una forma de documentación personal, entendiendo que la “realidad” es, en esencia, subjetiva. Mi lente captura no solo lo que veo, sino también lo que siento en el instante de ver. Cada fotografía se convierte en una cápsula del tiempo: un contenedor de memoria, emoción y atmósfera. Tomo fotografías para recordar: mi vida, mi evolución y el paisaje cambiante de mis emociones. El mundo visual despierta en mí un mundo de sensaciones, y mi intención es provocar una respuesta similar en quien mira, permitiéndole conectar con la imagen desde su propia experiencia. Encuentro la perfección dentro de la imperfección, reflejo de la naturaleza efímera de los momentos. La fotografía analógica, con su imprevisibilidad e inmediatez, encarna profundamente esta filosofía. Conserva fragmentos del tiempo que podrían desvanecerse, para luego ser redescubiertos.
Soy Claudia Muñoz Karig, nacida en Quito, Ecuador, fotógrafa germano-ecuatoriana. Me identifico como feminista y queer. Influenciada por una familia profundamente vinculada a la fotografía, este medio ha estado presente a lo largo de toda mi vida. Mi camino formal comenzó con estudios de fotografía análoga en Quito a los 18 años, seguido de una Licenciatura en Arquitectura en Alemania. Continué mi exploración fotográfica en la Freie Fotoschule Stuttgart en Alemania y he participado en diversas exposiciones colectivas. También he compartido mi conocimiento a través de talleres y cursos de fotografía. Actualmente resido y trabajo en Quito como fotógrafa y diseñadora, y cuento con un máster en Fotografía Artística por la UNIR.
